REMS/REMOTE RESCUE WORKSHOP

REMS/Remote Rescue Workshop

Description

REMS/Remote Rescue Workshop

CMC School’s innovative REMS/Remote Rescue Workshop is an intensive 5-day training that goes beyond the traditional techniques taught in rope operations and technician courses.

-Instructors include current members of active REMS teams and experienced SAR members who regularly work with Incident Management teams at complex incidents.

-Course is designed and taught to meet the technical rescue skill considerations set forth in the FIRESCOPE ICS 162-4 and NWCG PMS 552 documents.

-Students are given hands-on experience with alternative rope rescue tactics and strategies employing lightweight, efficient, component-based systems and small diameter ropes not typically found in a standard fire rescue cache.

The demand for this specialized training has increased due to the escalating incidents of wildfires, requiring a larger number of skilled firefighters on the frontlines. CMC School developed this course based on the demand for highly skilled, mobile rescuers trained to adapt to the ever-changing wildland fire environment. Our objective is to contribute to the expansion of qualified REMS teams members who have the rescue skills, decision making, and leadership abilities to quickly assess what is needed and provide the protection and support that CIMTs have come to expect from REMS teams. Skills learned from this course may also benefit SAR members, law enforcement, military or other rescuers seeking to expand knowledge utilizing lightweight systems and techniques designed for rapid access and extraction while maintaining acceptable factors of safety.

-Minimal classroom time on first morning followed by 4.5 days working in terrain similar to the wildland fire environment with ropes, systems, and light equipment.
